2019 Golf GTI Top Speed, Acceleration, and Performance

The Golf GTI has been around since 1974, just two years after the first Golf went into mass production. The rest is history. Volkswagen has been perfecting the Golf ever since, making every generation and yearly iteration better than the last. So, that brings us to today and the 2019 Golf GTI and its performance numbers. Let's take a look.

Impressively Fast Hatch

There's a reason that the Golf GTI was one of the originators of the term "hot hatch," and the 2019 Golf GTI is eager to show us why. With a top speed of 155 mph, it's faster than the beloved 2019 Mazda MX-5 Miata top speed of 135 mph. The acceleration is no joke either, with a 0-60 of 6.5 seconds, which is faster some of the more powerful vehicles on the market. And don't forget, these are the numbers from the GTI, not the racing-centric Golf R. The GTI has a 228-horsepower 2.0L turbo 4-cylinder under the hood that cranks out 258 ft-lbs of torque. Pair that with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic on any of the four trims: S, Rabbit, SE, and Autobahn.

Reliable and Drivable

The 2019 Golf GTI was named one of Car and Driver's "10Best." That's not "10Best Hatchbacks" or "10Best Small Vehicles," that's "10Best" out of every vehicle produced in 2019. That means the Golf GTI beat out dozens of other trucks, SUVs, sedans, and any other category you care to name. The award is hard to achieve, and the 2019 Golf GTI wears its well-earned accolade as proudly as it does its GTI badge.
