Piaggio Announces American 2013 Vespa Lineup

Piaggio Group Americas announced its 2013 Vespa scooter lineup including a pair of new special edition models and the recently revised LX and S models.
Our European correspondent Tor Sagen already reviewed the 2013 Vespa LX and S scooters, reviewing the 125cc and 150cc versions. U.S. consumers will have the option of 50cc and 125cc engines for both the 2013 Vespa LX and Vespa S. Both models are powered by Piaggio's new three-valve engines which are designed for improved power and efficiency.
Piaggio claims a top speed of 35 mph and fuel economy of 90 mpg from the LX 50, and 59 mph and 75 mpg from the LX 150 ie. The LX models also features a round headlight and lockable glove box, while the 150cc version also gets an updated instrument panel.
The LX scooters will be available showrooms in late October in Dragon Red, Midnight Blue, Volcano Black and the new-for-2013 Aquamarine color (depicted above.) The 2013 Vespa LX 50 is priced at $3399 while the LX 150 ie is priced at $4599.
The 2013 Vespa S will also be offered with 50cc and 150cc engines. Piaggio claims the S models have the same maximum speed as the LX models, but the Vespa S 50 claims 85 mpg while the Vespa S 150 i.e. gets 70 mpg.
The leg shield on the Vespa S scooters are thinner than on the LX, with open storage compartments instead of the LX's lockable storage. The 2013 Vespa S 50 is priced at $3299 while the S 150 i.e. is priced at $4499. Both models are available in Dragon Red or Montebianco White, and will arrive in showrooms in late October.
Piaggio will also offer a special edition version of the S models and the GTS 300 i.e. featuring a Satin Black color and red finish on the front suspension spring.
The Vespa S Sport SE features a Satin Black color, racing graphics, black wheels and red suspension springs. The 50cc version also gets a single seat saddle with white piping. The 2013 Vespa S 50 Sport SE is available for $3399 while the Vespa S 150 i.e. Sport SE is going for $4599. Both models will be available in late October.
The Vespa GTS 300 i.e. Super Sport SE features graphics along the rear fairing and white piping on the saddle. Piaggio claims a maximum speed of 80 mph with fuel economy of 70 mpg. Available in late October in Satin Black, the 2012 Vespa GTS 300 i.e. Super Sport SE is priced at $6399.
The GTS is also available in a Super configuration which has the same red suspension spring but will be available in Dragon Red and Montebianco White for $6199. Both the Super and Super Sport SE come with the 12-inch alloy wheels and front and rear disc brakes found on the base GTS 300 i.e. which will be available in Midngiht Blue or Bronze for $5999.
Returning for 2013 is the Vespa LXV 150 i.e. in Espresso as well as the popular Siena Ivory color. The LXV is built around the LX 150 engine and now comes standard with front and rear luggage racks. The LXV will arrive in showrooms in late October with a $5499 price tag.
Rounding out the 2013 Vespa line is the GTV 300 i.e., featuring the headlamp positioned on the front mudguard like the first Vespa prototype. The GTV uses the same engine as the GTS 300 i.e., caliming 70 mpg and 80 mph. Also available with front and rear luggage racks and the same colors as the LXV, the GTV carries a $6999 price.
